Climate and weather in Corsica

Corsica is a small island, but the climatic conditions, like in Crimea, are very different. The local climate is very dependent on altitude, and therefore changes greatly with further advancement into the mountains. In most parts of the island, it has a Mediterranean character with mild winters and hot summers. In many ways, the weather in Corsica is formed due to strong winds that hit the island from all sides, this is very similar to how the weather is formed in Crimea.

Corsica

Corsican winters are usually very short. If the chilling mistral does not fall on the island, then winter weather conditions are tolerated quite easily. Winter snow in Corsica can be seen in January and February at an altitude of over three hundred meters in the mountains. At this time, the Corsican mountain slopes are traditionally occupied by alpine skiing enthusiasts.

In the spring, the island blooms in the literal sense of the word. The weather in Corsica at this time is not yet hot, and the island itself is covered with a real carpet of macia, fragrant aromas and turning desert territories into a kingdom of green and white bushes. This is the best time to travel to the island. You can even swim in the coastal waters.

If you go to Corsica in the summer, you will have to put up with the increasing heat, which peaks in July and August. Fires are frequent at this time, as oppressive heat, frequent droughts and dry wind dry everything around so much that only a small spark is enough to set fire to many bushes.

September and October are still very warm in Corsica, although the whole island is covered with autumn flowers. The sea water off the coast of the island also remains warm: its temperature is kept at 20 degrees. Evening time during these autumn months is characterized by mild weather.

The most capricious weather in Corsica is in the mountainous regions. In general, it is very difficult to spend a vacation on this island in rainy weather, since in total there are 50 days a year with precipitation. So, in the Bastia region, the maximum precipitation is recorded in October, when their amount becomes slightly higher than 100 mm, and then rapidly drops down, reaching its minimum in July. The average January temperature in the Bastia region is kept at the level of 14-15 degrees, at night dropping to 5. In summer, the daytime temperature rises to almost 30 degrees, and at night the air cools down to 15. Sea water off the coast of Bastia in December is another 15 degrees, and in February and March slightly below this figure. It demonstrates its maximum in July-August - almost 25 ° С.

Winds are said to form over Corsica. However, they are more likely to fall on the island from all directions, rather than form here. The most famous and powerful of these are the mistral, tramontana and sirocco. The first begins in the valleys of the mainland Rhone, and, reaching the sea, it turns into a westerly wind called ponente. If it blows from the southwest, then it becomes libecciu. The second brings bad weather conditions from the Gulf of Genoa, and the third can make the summer heat almost unbearable, in the autumn it is he who raises the temperature columns to summer levels.
